HR Specialist

HR Specialist / Generalist required by leading FMCG company based in Waterford City. Reporting to the Head of HR for Ireland, the HR Generalist will be based in Waterford and will have a strong knowledge of Irish Employment Law joining its Group HR team. The role involves providing high level support and guidance to the HR Management and site HR teams on employee relations issues (disciplinaries, grievances etc) along with monitoring new and updated legislation relevant to the business and updating policies and procedures to reflect the legislation, in conjunction with the Head of HR in Ireland.

The successful candidate will be based in our head office and will be responsible for:

  • Providing support and advice on IR/ER and employment rights matters to the HR Team and Operational managers.
  • Working closely with the Head of HR in providing professional ER/HR advice and innovative solutions in order to create positive outcomes,
  • Providing expert advice and support to HR teams and Operational managers in dealing with disciplinary, grievance and dismissal cases,
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of up-to-date HR policies, procedures and processes which are ‘fit for purpose’ and reflect legislation and modern employment practice,
  • Keeping up to date on employment law changes, industrial relations and human resource developments and relevant case law. and ensuring HR managers and HR staff are kept informed of same.
  • Ongoing review of Company policies to ensure compliance with relevant legislative obligations,
  • Supporting the HR Team with written communications as required.
  • Conducting research on ER/IR/HR issues and providing recommendations on the application of best practice,
  • Developing effective partnership working relationships with employer representative bodies,
  • Participating in HR projects and initiatives as necessary,
  • Preparing and delivering training sessions in the area of Industrial/Employee relations and Employment legislation for the wider HR team.
  • Training design and delivery, development of guidance on policy and practice, coaching and organisational development,
  • Providing support on the preparation of submissions/cases for third party industrial relations proceedings, e.g. Workplace Relations Commission.

The ideal candidate will have/demonstrate:

  • A relevant 3rd level HR qualification or similar,
  • Demonstrate strong HR, employee relations, investigation and/or labour relations experience,
  • A proven ability to build strong partnerships and work collaboratively with managers and HR colleagues,
  • A confidential, discreet and diplomatic approach.  Ability to work with confidential information,
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Irish employment law,
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
